2019: Combating Climate Change

2019 Policy Corner Essay Competition at Sciences Po Paris

The prevention and effects of climate change will and are affecting multiple policy areas. Fiscal policymakers flirt with carbon taxation, emission credits and green tax reform, while movements in transport policy consider sustainable biofuels, diesel bans and congestion charges. Future shifts in global migration stemming from extreme weather conditions worry human rights and development experts, as the tech sector scratches its head, still looking for “the” digital solution. Global cooperation and new forms of concerted action are needed now more than ever, yet previous international diplomatic formats – such as Kyoto and Paris – despite their best attempts, have not proven sufficient. Global governance solutions are becoming increasingly vital from all sides in the face of the ticking climate clock and we want to hear from you.

We would like to hear your thoughts, ideas and solutions in an original 800-1000 word policy paper on: “Combating Climate Change: Towards Global Governance Solutions”. By submitting your paper, you would be competing for the chance to have your article published by the Policy Corner. Note that the topic must discuss a future challenge posed by climate change and suggest potentially actionable and innovative solutions.

The competition winner will be invited to participate in a panel discussion at Sciences Po with renowned experts on the subject. Moreover, the top articles will be published on policycorner.org. More information on the event and prizes is forthcoming.
